best druid build bg3 Wild Shape Explained
Druids in Baldur’s Gate 3 can transform into beast forms using the Wild Shape ability, available at level 2. With each short rest, they restore two Wild Shape charges. When a druid takes on a wild shape, they gain all the game stats of the beast form, such as hit points, armor class, movement speed, strength, dexterity, and constitution. Additionally, they gain the unique abilities of their beast form, including flying, wall climbing, and breathing underwater—key features for any BG3 Druid Build.

A Druid, however, cannot speak like an animal or cast spells while in Wild Shape. Their equipment also transforms into an animal shape, becoming useless until they return to humanoid form. Depending on the subclass, druids can assume various beast forms through Wild Shape.
The Druid build discussed here is the Symbiotic Entity, utilizing the Circle of Spores subclass feature. While it doesn’t rely heavily on Wild Shape forms, using a Wild Shape charge to activate Symbiotic Entity provides significant DPS boost, making it ideal for the Best BG3 Druid Build.

Best Bg3 Druid Build Subclass | BG3 Druid build Circle of Spores | BG3 Druid build Circle of the Land
The BG3 Druid build with the Circle of Spores subclass is unique due to its use of Halo of Spores as a reaction after activating Symbiotic Entity to boost damage. This mitigates the Druid’s typical weaknesses, such as limited actions and bonus action utility. As you progress, the subclass becomes more potent, transforming into an aggressive, spell-casting Druid. The Symbiotic + Halo combo requires Wild Shape charges but doesn’t rely on creature transformations. With the ability to summon multiple allies at higher levels, this build functions similarly to a traditional spellcaster.
List of the Circle of Spores Bg3 Druid Build subclass progression, features, and spells:
- Symbiotic Entity: Get eight temporary hit points for every level of the Druid, and while you have them, deal an extra 1-6d of necrotic damage. Cast twice as much damage with Halo of Spores. Consume a Charge of Wild Shape. (Level 2)

Best Bg3 Druid Build Level Progression
As a level-one Druid in the Bg3 Druid Build, you’ll select the best Cantrips and Spells. You’ll use various weapons and light armor, so keep an eye out for a good quarterstaff. For now, we’ll focus on class basics, but at level 2, choosing your subclass is crucial for significantly boosting your damage.
Level 1
- Level 1 Cantrips:
- Shillelagh: Bring the strength of nature to your club or employees. In addition to dealing 1d8+2 Bludgeoning damage and using your spellcasting ability on attack rolls, it turns magical. This is fantastic because it doesn’t require concentration and requires a bonus action instead of one action.
- Guidance: The target gains a +1d4 bonus to Ability Checks.
- Fire Bolt: Launch a mote of faerie fire for 1d10 Fire Damage. (High Elf Race)
- Level 1 Spells:
- Thunderwave:Give forth a blast of thundering energy that drives away all living things and objects (2d8 Thunder). As a knockback spell, this one should be used offensively to gain fast kill-off ledges.
- Ice Knife: Launch an ice shard that inflicts around 10% Piercing damage. When it bursts, everybody in the area takes 2∼12 Cold damage. At the beginning of the game, this is a fantastic range damage spell that has the potential to trigger the prone condition effect.
- Cure Wounds: A creature can be healed by touch. requires being in melee range and costs an action to heal, but you can combine them with Healing Word.
- Healing Word: 18m healing range 1d4. The best thing about this spell is that it only needs a bonus action to cast, as opposed to an action and a level 1 spell slot.
At level one in the Bg3 Druid Build, you unlock several spells and cantrips. Use Ice Knife for ranged damage and Faerie Fire when your spell slots are full. Thunderwave serves as a knockback when enemies try to hit you. Guidance is a utility cantrip, easily swapped out if a cleric is in your party.
Make sure to get Cure Wounds and Healing Word. Despite this build’s high damage, these two abilities can be chained together for significant healing in one turn, making the build effective even at lower levels.
- Level 1 Prepared Spells: Cure Wounds, Ice Knife, Healing Word, Thunderwave
Bg3 Druid Build Priorities | battle master Fighter
At the start of the Bg3 Druid Build, your Druid will need to equip everything available. After selecting your subclass, switch to medium armor, a quarterstaff, and a shield in a few levels. In Act 3, you’ll find and equip strong light armor. Focus on obtaining and stocking Potion of Speed and Elixir of Bloodlust. These consumables can “stack,” granting you up to three actions in one turn. Later in Acts 2 and 3, you can stack Elixir of Battlemage’s Power with other Druid spells for even more potent effects.
Bg3 Druid Build Priorities is the following:
- Recruit Companions
- Complete Prologue
- Reached Hollowed City/Druid Grove
- Unlock Withers, respec companions to proper class/ability score
- Sell, Stock up, complete quests
- Collect the Necromancy of Thay (Act 3)
- Reach Underdark and Grymforge
- Progress to level 5
- Check all Permanent Bonuses in Act 1 and the best Gear

Level 2
You should choose the Circle of the Spores subclass at level two. This subclass will allow you to select one new spell and provide you three subclass features:
- Class Feature
- Wild Shape: You can take on the shape of a beast as an action. You can transform twice in a short rest.
- Subclass Feature
- Symbiotic Entity: Get eight temporary hit points for every level of the Druid, and while you have them, deal an extra 1-6d of necrotic damage. Deal twice as much damage with Halo of Spores. Uses up a Charge of Wild Shape.
- Halo of Spores: Launch a cloud of necrotic spores at a target, reacting with 1d4 necrotic damage.
- Bone Chill cantrip: Place 1–8 necrotic damage and hold off on letting the victim recover until your subsequent turn. On attack rolls, the undead are disadvantageous.
- ٍSpell Selection
- Speak with Animals: Acquire the ability to understand and speak with beasts. Until the next long rest.
- Level 2 Prepared Spells: Thunderwave, Healing Word, Animal Speaking, Cure Wounds, Ice Knife
Symbiotic Entity Explained | Bg3 Druid Build
Symbiotic Entity is the most important new spell available in the Bg3 Druid Build; it lasts until the next long rest. Recast it whenever you’re resting at camp. With Symbiotic Entity’s temporary hit points, you double the damage from Halo of Spores. Since Halo of Spores casts as a reaction instead of an action or bonus action, it’s a “free” spell. This allows you to pair three Druid spells in one turn, such as Halo of Spores, Healing Word, and Ice Knife.
With this setup, you fuel the Symbiotic Entity with Wild Shape charges instead of transforming. Don’t use Wild Shape for transformations—use it to gain a long rest bonus to boost damage. The only reason not to do this would be to take advantage of tougher creatures’ extra health.
For Druid builds, Speak with Animals is a great utility spell for quests and role-playing, but it won’t aid in combat Wild Shape.
You can now wear medium, light, or cloth armor. Your AC value and bonuses will impact your protection. Light armor boosts Dexterity by up to 3, while Medium only adds +2. Without Mage Armor, clothing might be weak but can offer strong set bonuses. Aim for an AC of 15–16 or higher, and prioritize light or medium armor.
At this stage, you can boost your AC with a shield and one-handed weapon. Use a Quarterstaff as you level up, gaining access to stronger spells and equipment. Act 3, in particular, grants bonuses for Quarterstaffs, assisting with spell slots and damage. Ultimately, focus on survivability. If needed, equip a mace, shield, and medium armor to ensure durability.
Level 3
At level three in your Bg3 Druid Build, you can select one spell, along with two subclass spells: Detect Thoughts and Blindness. These two spells are always prepared, giving you more flexibility in spellcasting, as they use spell slots but do not occupy space in your spellbook.
- Spell Selection
- Flaming Sphere: Call out a flaming sphere that does damage to adjacent enemies and objects. A 6-meter radius of sheds light and another 6-meter radius of dim light are emitted by the sphere.
- Subclass Feature
- Detect Thoughts: Focus your mind to read the thoughts of certain creatures while talking to them.
- Blindness: Limit a foes sight range. This makes it simpler to hit and increases the likelihood of a miss. When an assault is made against it, it has the advantage and the enemy has the disadvantage.
Use our concentration spell and Flaming Spear to do distraction damage early in the game. Continue to use Ice Knife, which deals range damage, along with Halo of Spores and cantrips for free damage and spell slots for healing and other purposes.
- Level 3 Prepared Druid Spells: Thunderwave, Healing Word, Flaming Sphere, Ice Knife, Animal Speaking, Cure Wounds
Level 4
The Circle of the Spores Druid will get a feat, an additional spell, and a cantrip at level four.
- Cantrip Selection
- Poison Spray: Cast a puff of noxious gas for 1d12 Poison damage.
- Spell Selection
- Heat Metal: Make a metal armour or weapon flash red hot, compelling any creature that tries to touch it to release it or suffer a disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks. The creature always takes a disadvantage if it is exclusively covered in metal armor. You can use a Bonus Action on subsequent turns to deal another 2d8 Fire damage and force the creature to release go or take a disadvantage if it is still touching the metal.
- BG3 Druid feats Selection
- Ability Improvement: Add an additional +2 points into our Wisdom main stat
Advertisement
The War Caster feat is no longer ideal for the Bg3 Druid Build, as you need strong concentration spells. An alternative is Warlock Initiative, offering Eldritch Blast and Hellish Rebuke. Heat Metal can be used in combat Wild Shape for high damage against weapon users like Githyanki, but it doesn’t work with Flaming Sphere, so you’ll need to choose one or the other.
- Level 4 Prepared Spells: Ice Knife, Healing Word, Flaming Sphere, Heat Metal, Thunderwave, Cure Wounds, Animal Speaking
Level 5
At level 5 in the Bg3 Druid Build, you unlock the Wild Strike class feature, level 3 spell slots, and two always-ready subclass spells. Additionally, if you took the Ability Improvement feat at the previous level, you’ll gain two extra spell selection options. This is highly beneficial early on, providing additional spell slots to enhance your versatility.
- Class Feature
- Wild Strike: You can make an additional attack after making an unarmed strike while in Wild Shape.
- Subclass Feature
- Gaseous Form: Transform yourself or an ally into a tiny gas cloud. It can’t fall and fits through small openings. It is very hard to damage, becoming resistant to all types of damage.
- Animate Dead: Create an undead servant from a corpse.
- Spell Selection
- Sleet Storm: Call forth a storm that disrupts the Concentration of spellcasters, douses fires, and creates an Ice Surface. Ice Surface: Difficult Terrain – Movement Speed halved. DEX Save to avoid falling Prone.
- Call Lighting: Call down lightning to hit all targets within range. Each turn can call down lightning again without expending a spell slot.
In the Bg3 Druid Build, Sleet Storm and Call Lightning are two great spell options for large area effects or high damage at range, though both require concentration. You can also combine Animate Dead and Flaming Sphere for powerful summons on the battlefield. Animate Dead lasts until your next long rest, costing a spell slot, and is useful to summon allies from fallen enemies. On your first turn of combat wild shape, you can use either Flaming Sphere or another strong damage ability. As you progress, you’ll gain the ability to stack summons, adding new allies without unsummoning old ones. Properly managing summons provides free damage, distractions, and simplifies gameplay.
- Level 5 Prepared Spells: Thunderwave, Cure Wounds, Animal Speaking, Heat Metal, Sleet Storm, Ice Knife, Healing Word, Flaming Sphere, Call Lighting
Level 6
A Circle of the Spores Druid has access to two more Wild Shape forms, one subclass feature, and an additional spell pick at level 6.
- Subclass Feature
- Fungal Infestation: Raises a mildewed, mould-encrusted zombie from a corpse until long rest. The target must be a beast or a humanoid corpse.
- Spell Selection
- Gust of Wind: Summon a strong wind that clears all clouds and pushes creatures back 5m, forcing them Off Balance.
In the Bg3 Druid Build, Fungal Infestation enhances your summoning abilities. This feature allows you to stack summoned zombies with your other two summons and lasts until your next long rest. Animate Dead and Fungal Infestation are best used outside of combat, ideally at the site of previous battles with many corpses. You can gather two summons before resting, or use Fungal Infestation as a reaction to gain an extra ally if a player falls. Gust of Wind is a utility spell that will be replaced with higher-level spells later.
By Level 6, you should be ready to leave Act 1. Be sure to visit traders for resources and alchemy supplies, and check for any missed top Act 1 items. Act 1 offers permanent bonuses, so don’t overlook them. Lastly, Grymforge contains powerful Adamantine weapons and armor that will serve you well into Act 3. Consider crafting here before moving on to Act 2, as this area won’t be accessible later.
Level 6 Prepared Spells: Ice Knife, Healing Word, Animal Speaking, Heat Metal, Sleet Storm, Gust of Wind, Thunderwave, Cure Wounds, Flaming Sphere, Call Lighting
Level 7
In the Best Baldur’s Gate 3 Circle of Spores Druid Build Guide, you can now gain two free subclass spells that are always prepared at Level 7 along with Level 4 spells, of which you can choose one.
- Spell Selection
- Ice Storm: Impel a storm of hail ice to crash from the sky, covering the ground and striking all objects and creatures within range.
- Conjure Woodland Beings: Summon from 1 fey of CR 2 to 8 fey of CR 1/4, friendly.
- Subclass Feature
- Confusion: Befuddle a group of creatures, causing them to attack at random, wander around aimlessly, and occasionally skip turns in the stupor.
- Blight: deal 8-64 necrotic damage Plants are more susceptible to this spell: they roll with Disadvantage, and still take half of all the damage if they succeed the roll.
In the Bg3 Druid Build, Conjure Woodland Beings is another summon that doesn’t require concentration, allowing you to stack it with your other summons for a total of four additional creatures fighting alongside your party. Ice Storm is a great spell for long-range area damage, while Blight delivers powerful burst damage. Confusion excels in large-scale battles with multiple targets, as it can make enemies turn on each other. If your land druid percentage is high, Confusion can even help you win battles against six or more enemies on its own.
- Level 7 Prepared Spells: Ice Knife, Healing Word, Animal Speaking, Heat Metal, Sleet Storm, Ice Storm, Conjure Woodland Being, Thunderwave, Cure Wounds, Flaming Sphere, Call Lighting
Level 8
At level eight, we’ll receive one more prepared spell and another feat.
- Spell Selection
- Wall of Fire: Make a wall of fire so hot that anyone who tries to go too close would get burned.
- BG3 Druid Feats Selection
- War Caster: When you save throws to keep your concentration on a spell, you gain an advantage. Shocking Grasp may also be used as a cast to strike a target that is moving away from you in melee range.
In the Bg3 Druid Build, the War Caster feat is essential since most of our powerful spells rely on concentration. At Level 12, we can reach 20 Wisdom with another feat. While Wall of Fire is less commonly used than Blight or Ice Storm, it can be effective in choke points. War Caster ensures that your concentration remains intact, allowing you to maintain your damage or crowd control spells while in combat.
- Level 8 Prepared Spells: Ice Knife, Healing Word, Animal Speaking, Heat Metal, Sleet Storm, Ice Storm, Conjure Woodland Being, Wall of Fire, Thunderwave, Cure Wounds, Flaming Sphere, Call Lighting
Level 9
At level nine, the Circle of the Spores Druid has access to two always-ready subclass spells and two level five spell slots.
- Spell Selection
- Conjure Elemental: Twist the barrier between the Planes until an elemental ally emerges to pursue and defend you.
- Subclass Feature
- Contagion: The victim of the spell attack is afflicted with one of six recommended diseases, which you can pick from to provide debuffs.
- Cloudkill: Do 5–40 poison damage Create a large cloud that deals around 5–40 Poison damage per turn. Every time you turn, the cloud may be moved.
In the Bg3 Druid Build, we gain access to another summon that can be stacked with others, adding up to five additional fighters to our party! The Earth Elemental is a favorite due to its health and shock abilities, making it a strong ally. This summon, like others, requires a long rest but stacks with your other summons. After each long rest, plan to buff with four or five spells. While this can be tedious, it can save you multiple actions when combat unexpectedly begins.
- Level 9 Prepared Spells: Ice Knife, Healing Word, Animal Speaking, Flaming Sphere, Call Lighting, Sleet Storm, Ice Storm, Wall of Fire, Conjure Elemental, Thunderwave, Cure Wounds, Conjure Woodland Being, Heat Metal
Level 10
We get one spell, Improved Wild Strike, and the Spreading Spore subclass feature at Level 10.
- Class Feature
- Improved Wild Strike: When in Wild Shape, you can launch two more attacks after striking without a weapon.
- Spell Selection
- Mass Cure Wounds: Up to 6 creatures regain 3d8+Spell.Ability.Mod.
- Subclass Feature
- Spreading Spores: Every turn, any creatures who breathe them in aside from you and your allies within nine meters will take 2–16 necrotic damage.
Spreading Spore is a bonus action that enhances the Halo of Spores and Fungal Infestation, making your spores even more effective. With this ability, you can use one offensive action, one bonus action, and two responses per turn, provided certain conditions are met. Spreading Spores has the benefit of a large 9-meter radius without damaging nearby allies. While the damage isn’t massive, it provides damage over time when used with a spare bonus action. In the Best Baldur’s Gate 3 Circle of Spores Druid Build, this combination with your five summons allows for significant damage and actions every turn.
- Level 10 Prepared Spells: Thunderwave, Healing Word, Cure Wounds, Flaming Sphere, Call Lighting, Sleet Storm, Ice Storm, Wall of Fire, Conjure Elemental, Ice Knife, Heat Metal, Conjure Woodland Being, Mass Cure Wound, Animal Speaking
Level 11
Your Circle of the Spores Druid will eventually be able to use a level 6 spell slot at level 11.
- Spell Selection
- Heroes’ Feast: You cannot be Frightened, Diseased, or poisoned, nor can anybody else near you. Everyone has a 12-point boost in their maximum hit points and can perform advantaged wisdom-saving throws.
We don’t need healing or any other damage-dealing spells that rely on concentration, so use this for another long rest benefit. It boosts HP, improves Wisdom-saving throws, and helps protect against harmful effects. This is the one level 6 spell slot you should always use after a long rest. At level 12, you only have one open slot, so you can’t cast two level 6 spells, which is why I usually don’t pick another one.
However, you can bypass this limitation by using Markoheshkir or the Staff of Spellpower. The Quarterstaff can perform a spell in both of these endgames without using a spell slot. With this powerful combination, your team will receive a long rest buff, and you’ll gain access to a burst damage ability.
- Level 11 Prepared Spells: Ice Knife, Thunderwave, Cure Wounds, Animal Speaking, Heat Metal, Sleet Storm, Conjure Woodland Being, Conjure Elemental, Heroes’ Feast, Healing Word, Flaming Sphere, Ice Storm, Wall of Fire, Mass Cure Wound, Call Lighting
Level 12
Now that you have reached the highest level in Baldur’s Gate, your Circle of the Spores Druid build will unlock your ultimate feat and two more spells. This is what we advise:
- Spell Selection
- Planar Binding: Choose a creature object to aim at and attach its consciousness to your own. For ten turns, it will battle and follow you as an ally.
- Wind Walk: Transform yourself and all nearby party members into tiny clouds of mist to avoid attacks.
- Feat Selection
- Ability Improvement: Activate Wisdom +2 for a maximum of 20.
