Best shadowheart build bg3 Level Progression
In Bg3 Shadowheart Build, ability scores are the six primary metrics defining character potential. While the game auto-assigns companions’ stats, you can adjust Shadowheart’s ability scores, subclass, and skills for 100 gold by consulting Withers at your camp.
Level 1
At Level 1, you can select three prepared spells and unlock three cantrips. Cantrips are reusable and don’t consume spell slots, while prepared spells can be swapped out before combat. Unlock Withers early, at level 2, immediately after the prologue, to respec Shadowheart for maximum efficiency.
Companions will default to their preset class and subclass, but always-prepared spells, unique to each subclass, don’t require a spellbook slot and provide additional casting flexibility. Optimize Shadowheart’s Cleric abilities by leveraging respec options and carefully choosing spells for adaptability.
Advertisement- Cantrip Selection
- Guidance: Advise one of your allies. A +1d4 bonus is applied to their ability checks. This spell is extremely helpful outside of combat and is crucial during dialogue checks.
- Sacred Flame: A fiery glow that deals 1d8 Radiant can be summoned. This cantrip has a very limited damage range and doesn’t require a spell slot to use.
- Thaumaturgy: Gain an advantage over performance checks and intimidation. Another useful noncombat-related cantrip is this one.
- Subclass Features
- Disciple of Life: Your love strengthens your healing spells. The victim recovers extra Hit Points equal to 2 + Spell level while using a healing spell.
- Spells Selection
- Healing Word: 1d4: Heals a creature you see up to 18 meters distant as a bonus action. As this is a bonus action heal, you can use it with another action-based cure, such as Cure Wounds, to perform two heals in one turn.
- Guiding Bolt: 4d6 Radiant damage that gives the victim the advantage on their subsequent extra attack roll. The Advantage component makes this incredibly beneficial and heavy damage. Take this as your primary offensive spell.
- Inflict Wounds: Necrotic damage of 3d10. Good damage when used at close range.
- Shield of Faith: A character can gain two AC by using a bonus action. Helpful because this spell calls for a bonus action rather than a protective one.
- Bless: A +1d4 bonus is applied to extra attack rolls and saving throws for up to three creatures. This spell has a 10-turn duration and needs concentration, which can be damaged. However, it can also be pre-cast before combat. This makes a big difference in melee land sneak attack builds for fighters and barbarians.
- Cure Wounds: A creature needs your touch to be healed with a 1d8 heal. Not a strong melee heal, but at lower levels, it can be used with Healing Word to deal two heals in one turn.
Getting Started with the Game | Best Shadowheart Build Bg3
At this stage in Bg3 Shadowheart Build, Guiding Bolt serves as the primary damage dealer. You can combine Cure Wounds and Healing Word for two heals in a single turn. For concentration boosts, use Bless or Shield of Faith, though not simultaneously. With limited spell slots at this level, rely on Fire Bolt cantrips alongside Shadowheart to deal damage without consuming spell slots. It may be tough at first, but as you level up, this becomes less of an issue. Always be on the lookout for resting supplies like barrels and crates.
During this phase, I mainly apply Shield of Faith to “squishy” allies who are prone to dying or drawing aggro, especially those with low Armor Class. This reduces the damage they take. Start your turn with a benefit like Blessed when not using Shield of Faith. Since both require concentration, you’ll usually have one concentration spell active, either as a buff or debuff. When not in direct line of sight, use Sacred Flame or Fire Bolt for cantrips with limited spell slots, and Guiding Bolt when close to the target.
For healing, you have Cure Wounds (action-based) and Healing Word (bonus action). Later in the game, you’ll access enhanced versions of these spells. Early on, damage output and buffs are minimal, but expect significant power spikes at levels 4, 5, 7, and 9, where you’ll unlock powerful spells, feats, summons, and other abilities to boost your utility.
Best Shadowheart Build Bg3 Weakness
The main issue in Bg3 Shadowheart Build is the Cleric’s low initiative, leading to slower movement and making you vulnerable to stuns. If your initiative is low, you’ll act later in the combat round, increasing susceptibility to enemy control. Misty Step is invaluable in this case, as it compensates for sluggish movement. An amulet that grants you the ability to use Misty Step once per short rest is available, and traders may offer scrolls as well—stock up on them. Misty Step can be used every battle round to escape danger or close the gap to healing range.
For this build, we don’t recommend multiclassing Shadowheart, as it reduces her bonus action utility. Instead, prioritize using bonus actions for spells like Healing Word, Misty Step, and Spiritual Weapon. Consider acquiring scrolls that allow you to cast bonus action spells like Shield, as well. Additionally, elixirs that last a long rest can be extremely useful. Elixir of Universal Resistance makes you nearly invincible later, and fire resistance elixirs are helpful in certain early-game scenarios.
Best shadowheart build bg3 Priorities, Tips & tricks
If you opt for the Life subclass and Bg3 Shadowheart Build with heavy armor, one hand, and a shield, Shadowheart becomes quite durable. After playing for a few hours, head north in the Hollowed City to find two vendors selling Chain Mail or +1 Scale armor. This will immediately boost your AC to 17 or 18. Combine this with Shield of Faith, and you can easily reach an AC of 20 in no time. This should be your primary goal—focus on achieving this tankiness early to make Shadowheart a formidable force in your party.
Tips for starting the Baldur’s Gate 3 shadowheart build bg3 Act 2 game:
- Shield upgrade to uncommon
- Upgrading medium armor to heavy +1
- Purchasing plenty of Misty Step scrolls
- You mush reach 17 or 18 AC with this.
- Get camping supplies for a long rest
- Purchase a Misty Step amulet.
- Purchase all crafting supplies from vendors.
Level 2
At level two, Bg3 Shadowheart Build spells will mostly stay the same. You can prepare up to five spells, swapping them as needed outside of combat. Your subclass grants Turn Undead and Preserve Life. It’s recommended to utilize the Command spell for added control in combat.
- Spells Selection
- Command: Give a creature instructions to flee, move closer, freeze, drop to the ground, or drop their weapon eighteen meters away, needing concentration. This is an effective localized crowd control technique that can make weapons drop. When the game is early and there are a lot of enemies, use this.
- Subclass Features
- Preserve Life: Invoke a healing energy that gives allied creatures a hit-point restoration of three Tempest Cleric Levels. does not affect constructs or undead.
- Turn Undead: Turns Inflicted. While you pray, display your holy symbol. Any zombie with eyes or ears has to flee from you.
At this stage, Bg3 Shadowheart Build gameplay remains mostly the same. With Preserve Life, you can heal large areas of damage using charges. This powerful healing scales with level and doesn’t require a spell slot, making it invaluable throughout the game. Turn Undead proves useful in many battles, while the Command spell can disarm opponents or knock them prone, providing solid crowd control.
- Spell at level 2: Guiding Bolt, Healing Word, Inflict Wounds, Shield of Faith, Command
Level 3
At level three, Bg3 Shadowheart Build grants you two level 2 spells and one additional level 1 spell. Use Spiritual Weapon to fill the level two spell slot, plus two free spells from the Life Domain.
- Spells Selection
- Spiritual Weapon: Call out a spiritual weapon to strike enemies in the area. This is fantastic as it doesn’t need concentration and allows you to use bonus action. Sword form is advised; each form has a unique strike that might debuff the enemy.
- Subclass Features
- Lesser Restoration: Heal a creature from disease, poisoning, blindness, or paralysis.
- Aid: Your allies will benefit from your toughness and will to heal and maximize their hit points.
Spiritual Weapon changes gameplay slightly at this point. You can use this bonus action alongside another action in the same turn. Pre-casting it along with Bless before combat can be a great strategy. This spell is highly effective as it doesn’t require concentration and absorbs some damage. Consider Inflict Wounds as a flexible option; if not needed, swap it for Sanctuary.
- Spell at level 3: Shield of Faith, Healing Word, Inflict Wounds, Spiritual Weapon, Guiding Bolt, Command
Level 4
At level four, Bg3 Shadowheart Build grants one cantrip, one more prepared spell, and a feat or ability boost. We recommend adding two points to your Wisdom ability score. To enhance healing, take the Ability Improvement feat and add two ability points to Wisdom. Choose Blade Ward as your cantrip, and Warding Bond as your spell to provide additional protection.
- Cantrip Selection
- Blade Ward: Attacks with piercing, slashing, and Bludgeoning weapons should only be put at half their power. If you anticipate receiving melee damage, this is a good cantrip.
- Spells Selection
- Warding Bond: The caster shares damage, but the target gets resistance to all damage, +1 AC, and +1 saving throws. This is useful as it may be pre-cast outside of battle and endures until a long rest.
The gameplay in Bg3 Shadowheart Build remains consistent at this level, offering increased damage and healing due to the higher ability score. You can also use Warding Bond as a bonus action. At this stage, you have two other options: Sanctuary and Hold Person. Sanctuary makes a target untargetable, though it can still take area-of-effect damage. Hold Person is a powerful stun that locks a target, particularly useful for humanoid boss battles or pesky Githyanki.
- Spell at level 4: Healing Word, Guiding Bolt, Shield of Faith, Command, Warding Bond, Inflict Wounds, Spiritual Weapon
Level 5
At level five in Bg3 Shadowheart Build, you gain access to a level 3 spell and two free subclass spells as a Life Cleric. Mass Healing Word is an excellent choice here, offering large AOE healing and requiring only a bonus action instead of an action.
- Subclass Spells
- Beacon of Hope: After healing, your teammates will regain as many hit points as possible. Additionally, they get an advantage on Death Saving Throws & Wisdom Saving Throws. When considerable damage is anticipated and you won’t be doing anything other than healing every trun, use this spell as your concentration.
- Revivify: Revive a companion. They have one hit point when they revive. I typically often throw a potion rather than this spell when I want to revive an ally because they come back with greater HP.
- Spells Selection
- Mass Healing Word: Heal up to six creatures for 1d4+3. This is an extremely potent broad area heal that may be used as a bonus action and paired with another action to be used in the same turn.
Mass Healing Word is an upgraded version of Healing Word at this stage. With a bonus action, you can heal six creatures in the area. If you prefer to add more offensive pressure, consider using Glyph of Warding by dropping another level 2 spell. Alternatively, Animate Dead can bolster your allies in battle, although it may not align with Shadowheart’s story.
- Spell at level 5: Shield of Faith, Command, Inflict Wounds, Warding Bond, Hold Person, Mass Healing Word, Spiritual Weapon, Glyph of Warding, Guiding Bolt, Healing Word
Level 6
A Blessed Healer Passive, another level 3 spell, and another Channel Divinity Charge are awarded to Life Clerics at level six.
- Class Features
- Blessed Healer: When you cast a healing spell of Level 1 or higher on another creature, you regain hit points equal to 2+ the spell’s level. Healing others essentially heals you.
- Channel Divinity Charges: either Preserved Life or Turn Undead. Preserved Life is preferred because it’s a powerful 9m are based heal. At this level you have two.
- Spells Selection
- Glyph of Warding: Inscribe a circle of arcane glyphs on the ground that trigger a magical effect when stepped on by an enemy. This spell is useful because you can proc elemental effects and do massive area damage.
At this stage in the Bg3 Shadowheart Build, summon Spiritual Weapon and use your bonus action during the first turn. Casting Bless on the squad should be done before or during the first turn of combat. Then, deal damage using Glyph of Warding or Guiding Bolt, and utilize Mass Healing Word or Preserve Life for substantial recovery.
As you approach the end of Act 1, be sure to check vendors and restock goods for camp and alchemy. Don’t forget to equip the epic Blood of Lathander sword, one of Shadowheart’s best weapons, which remains useful throughout the game. Finally, complete Grymforge and explore the Underdark, where you can equip the powerful Adamantine medium armor for the rest of the game.
- Spell at level 6: Guiding Bolt, Healing Word, Inflict Wounds, Warding Bond, Command, Hold Person, Mass Healing Word, Glyph of Warding, Shield of Faith, Spiritual Weapon
Level 7
Level 7 grants the Life Cleric two subclass-specific spells, Death Ward and Spirit Guardian of Faith, as well as one level 4 spell slot.
- Subclass Spells
- Guardian of Faith: When a hostile creature is within ten feet of the created guardian, they have to make a Dexterity saving or else receive twenty radiant damage. This call created a Spirit Guardian that is immobile but still has a 10-foot damage radius. It absorbs damage each time it causes damage. This spell has the benefit of working well when combined with a Spiritual Weapon. Both actions—one is a bonus action and the other is an action—don’t require concentration. Thus, you can use Spiritual Weapon and Spirit Guardian to interrupt the activity on turn one.
- Death Ward: The target instantly returns to 1 HP after falling to 0 HP for the first time. This is basically a racial trait mimic of a Half-Orc with Relentless Endurance. When faced with challenging boss fights when you think a member of your squad would get one shot on turn one, this tactic comes in extremely helpful.
- Spells Selection
- Freedom of Movement:Unaffected by water, spells, or tough terrain, the Target can move freely. An effective spell for movement both within and outside of battle.
In the Bg3 Shadowheart Build, you can utilize major summoning abilities around the middle of the game, especially on turn one. If you can cast both Spirit Guardians and Spiritual Weapon with an action and bonus action, your first turn is crucial. Afterward, focus on healing and buffs using Bless.
For damage, use Guiding Bolt on a single target or Glyph of Warding for area damage if your team has high health. Banishment serves as an excellent single-target crowd control (CC) option, replacing Freedom of Movement if needed. To conserve spell slots, you can use scrolls for CC. Remember, Shadowheart and the Cleric class allow for spell swapping when out of combat, so feel free to experiment and adjust your spell loadout as needed.
- Spell at level 7: Guiding Bolt, Healing Word, Command, Inflict Wounds, Warding Bond, Mass Healing Word, Glyph of Warding, Shield of Faith, Spiritual Weapon, Hold Person, Freedom of Movement
Level 8
The Life Cleric gains Divine Strike, a feat, and an extra level 4 spell slot at level 8.
- Feat War Caster
- War Caster: When you save throws to keep your concentration on a spell, you gain advantage. Shocking Grasp may also be used as a response to strike a target that is moving away from you in close range. Thus, War Caster plays a major role in keeping our build’s attention, which is nearly constantly active.
- Spells Selection
- Remove Curse: To erase any Curses and Hexes afflicting a creature or item, just touch it. This is a specialized spell for this slot; if you feel it’s absent, Banishment is an excellent replacement.
- Subclass Feature
- Divine Strike: Cast your weapon at an enemy while it’s covered in a gleaming radiance. As a support build, we don’t prioritize weapon damage, as Guiding Bolt takes care of single-target requirements.
- Spell at level 8: Shield of Faith, Inflict Wounds, Spiritual Weapon, Hold Person, Glyph of Warding, Freedom of Movement, Remove Curse, Guiding Bolt, Command, Warding Bond, Healing Word, Mass Healing Word
Level 9
The Cleric receives two free spells at level 9, along with Mass Cure Wounds and Great Restoration, one level 4 spell slot, one level 5 spell slot, and an extra prepared spell, for a total of thirteen spells at level 9.
- Spells Selection
- Flame Strike: 10–60 harm Create a pillar of divine fire that descends from the heavens, like the wrath of affronted angels. On Save: Half damage is still dealt to targets. requires no concentration and is an area-based spell with more power than Glyph of Warding.
- Insect Plague: 4d10 piercing damage Locust attack everyone within range, make the area Difficult Terrain, and impose Disadvantage on Perception Checks. This requires concentration but this spell does great damage in a massive area and hinders movement though requires concentration.
- Subclass Feature
- Greater Restoration:End one curse, one condition (petrified or charmed), one HP loss, one ability score, or one exhaustion level.
- Mass Cure Wounds: Six creatures may be regained to 3d8+ Spell Ability modifier.
In the Bg3 Shadowheart Build, you gain significant power at this level, offering superior area-based damage and healing. You now have two high-level spells that can be cast with or without concentration, along with enhanced healing capabilities.
Level 9 Cleric Prepared Spells: Guiding Bolt, Healing Word, Command, Spiritual Weapon, Warding Bond, Mass Healing Word, Freedom of Movement, Insect Plague, Flame Strike, Shield of Faith, Glyph of Warding, Inflict Wounds, Hold Person
Bg3 Shadowheart Build Multi-Class Options
The Cleric has the option to bg3 best shadowheart build multiclass at level 9. There are benefits and drawbacks to this, but in my experience, it’s preferable to level up the Life Cleric all the way to level six spells.
Rogue: Shadowheart’s mobility and additional action may be greatly increased by using the Thief and Rogue combo. Along with cunning actions, Fast Hands grants you an extra bonus action. These let you use Disengaged, Dash, and Hide with a bonus action instead of an action. Though Thief Rogue is a choice, you will lose several spells in the endgame, which may make it unwise.
Fighter: The two-level fighter possesses Action Surge. This allows you to take an extra action once every battle and recharge during short rests. This helps to address the primary problem with clerics, which is their lack of various actions. Although it’s a choice, you do sacrifice another feat and level 6 spells.
Level 12 Cleric: this is the technique I like since you gain access to level 5 and 6 spells and additional feat bringing our Wisdom to 20 with War Caster. Something about summoning a Cambion and Spiritual Weapon on turn one makes it so exciting and highly powerful.
Level 10
Level 10 grants the Life Cleric one cantrip, one more spell slot, one prepared spell, and the subclass feature Divine Intervention.
- Subclass Feature
- Divine Intervention: You can ask your god for assistance by casting Divine Intervention. This is only useful once and cannot be reused. With this one-time-only spell, you have a few choices, but a damaging spell is the most apparent. There is enormous damage across a large region.
- Cantrip Selection
- Light: Add an aura of light to an object. This is a utility spell that is used rarely.
- Spell Selection
- Planar Binding: Choose a creature object to aim at and integrate its consciousness with your own. It will be your ally, following and defending you. gives reasonable crowd control if the percentage is more than 60%.

- Level 10 Cleric Prepared Spells: Shield of Faith, Command, Inflict Wounds, Spiritual Weapon, Warding Bond, Glyph of Warding, Freedom of Movement, Planar Binding, Guiding Bolt, Mass Healing Word, Healing Word, Insect Plague, Flame Strike, Hold Person
shadowheart build bg3 Divine Intervention
In the Bg3 Shadowheart Build, save Divine Intervention for the final battle when crucial damage is needed to conclude the story. Alternatively, you can “cheese” the spell by hiring a hireling. Respec to Life Cleric with the hireling, cast one of the variants, and you’ll receive a legendary mace for free. Afterward, give it to Shadowheart and dismiss the companion.
Level 11
You can use the final spell slot for Level 6 at Level 11.
- Spell Selection
- Heal: cure for 70 damage, cure the wounds of a victim, and eliminate all illnesses and blindness.
- Planar Ally: Until a long rest, summon a deva, djinn, or campion to assist the caster.
- Cleric Prepared Spells: Shield of Faith, Command, Inflict Wounds, Warding Bond, Mass Healing Word, Glyph of Warding, Insect Plague, Planar Ally, Heal, Guiding Bolt, Healing Word, Freedom of Movement, Spiritual Weapon, Hold Person, Flame Strike
Bg3 Shadowheart Build Planar Ally
In the Bg3 Shadowheart Build, after a long rest, use your six spells for Planar Ally. This spell doesn’t require concentration, offers significant health benefits, deals damage, and provides distractions. It’s perfect for post-rest since the ally won’t interrupt dialogue. Additionally, it can effectively harm enemies and redirect their focus. Keep in mind, unless you have the Legendary Staff found early in Act 3, you’ll only have one level 6 spell slot to use. You can mix shields and quarterstaff for added versatility.
Level 12
Congratulations on using Shadowheart to attain the highest level of 12! We acquire one spell and one extra feat at this level of the Life Cleric.
Spell Selection: Produce a feast for 12 guests that cures diseases, immunizes to poison, and increases hp by 2d10 for 24 hours. This spell helps with status effects and increasing health. I prefer Planar Ally, but this has some good utility.
Feat: +2 ability improvement to 20 Wisdom. Some items can get you to 22 but this is easy and helps with healing, damage, and success chance.
You should feel incredibly strong at maximum level. combining tremendous damage, area-based healing, strong single target, and many summoning. Surprisingly, the Life Cleric has a ton of damage, and you may use the action and bonus action combo tremendous blow out your squad in one round.
Level 12 Cleric Prepared Spells: Guiding Bolt, Healing Word, Inflict Wounds, Spiritual Weapon, Warding Bond, Mass Healing Word, Glyph of Warding, Freedom of Movement, Flame Strike, Planar Ally, Heal, Hero’s Feast, Shield of Faith, Command, Insect Plague, Mass Healing Word, Hold Person

Best Bg3 Shadowheart Build Gameplay Tips and Tricks
Here’s the Best PBg3 Shadowheart Build Gameplay Tips and Tricks:
- Bonus Action Heal: When combined with your primary action-based heal, make the most of your bonus action heal.
- Heal Allies: Use your heavy hitters’ actions and bonus actions to deal damage, and concentrate on healing allies rather than attacking enemies.
- Cantrips: Use them if you don’t have enough spell slots or if you want to save some for a big offensive spell.
- Blessed: To obtain several turns without using a turn in combat, cast Bless before participating in combat.
- Crowd Control: Use Blind and Command to CC opponents and reduce their total damage taken.
- Area vs Single Target:Make sure you maximize the effects of each spell, and if you need to heal more than one person at once, get into position and apply an area-based heal.
- Guiding Bolt: This is your major bomb early on, therefore it’s best to utilize it when teammates don’t require a heal on the first turn.
- Range: Aim to stay in close proximity to your allies so that you may heal or deal damage with melee attacks, but avoid getting too far away from them.
- Consumables: Use a speed potion to your advantage if you require more than one action in a turn.
- Health Potions: Assume that allies have enough of healing potions on hand in case they become invisible to you or require extensive healing.
